Industrial Action 26 March 2014
As you may already be aware, the National Union of Teachers has decided to take industrial action consisting of a one day strike on 26 March 2014. As this is national strike action rather than a local dispute, most schools are likely to be affected.
This action is not against the Academy itself but is part of national industrial action about changes to pensions and other aspects of government policy.
There is no requirement on unions to inform us of which members of staff will take action, and it may be that they will not know themselves as there is no obligation on members of unions to obey a strike call. However, the academy will not know the precise number of colleagues taking action until the actual morning of the strike making planning very difficult.
Having considered the possible consequences of this action particularly balancing the safe supervision of large numbers of students alongside reduced staffing levels we have concluded that we will not be able to offer quality learning experiences for students on this day or ensure safe supervision. Therefore, on Wednesday 26 March 2014 the Academy will be closed for all students.
Apologies in advance for the inconvenience this will cause. The Academy will be open as normal on Thursday 27 March 2014.
