Health and Social

Overview

This course will provide you with the opportunity to gain a broad knowledge and understanding of, and develop skills in, the health and social care sector. It will provide a comprehensive and challenging programme of study related to health and social care sector.

It will broaden and deepen understanding of careers in health and social care and their attributes.

You will study all of the following areas:

  • Human lifespan development
  • Health and social care values
  • Effective communication
  • Equality and diversity
  • Individual rights
  • Healthy living
  • Impact of diet on health
  • Creative and therapeutic activities
  • Vocational experience

Assessment is a combination of examinations and coursework assignments.

BTEC

Year 9

In Year 9 students that choose health and social care will be given the background to the topics above which will then enable them to have an increased awareness of the subject prior to starting the BTEC qualification in Year 10. Students will become confident in working in this area and complete some small practice assignments.

Year 10 & 11

In Years 10 & 11 students will complete both the external and internal assessments for the BTEC qualification. This will include both written assignments and examinations.

Facilities and resources

Students will be working in both a classroom with assignments to complete on the health and care sector.
