The course in Construction and the Built Environment course aims to provide an understanding of the construction industry including construction technology, scientific and mathematical applications for construction, construction and design, construction processes and operations, construction drawing techniques and exploring carpentry and joinery principles and techniques.

In Year 9 students that choose construction will be given a mixture of practical and theory which will then enable them to have an increased awareness of the subject prior to starting the BTEC qualification in Year 10. Students will become confident in working in the workshop and using the correct tools to complete small projects.
Year 10 & 11
In Years 10 & 11 students will complete both the external and internal assessments for the BTEC qualification. This will include both written assignments and practical tasks.
Facilities and resources
Students will be working in both a classroom and the construction centre. In the construction centre they will have the opportunity to simulate a work place environment. Protective clothing and equipment will be needed in the construction centre.
